Pärnu-Jaagupi Basic School

History

The beginning of educating young people at Pärnu-Jaagupi dates back to 1660's, when the local priest started teaching children reading, writing and arithmetic. Learning process took place at the priest's home and the first real schoolhouse was built only in the 1820's. The next schoolhouse which is used as the school canteen and school hostel today, was built in 1901. Thanks to the growing number of children the primary and then the 7-year school turned into a secondary school in 1952 and the present schoolhouse was erected in 1960. Since 2002 the official name of the school was Pärnu-Jaagupi Gümnaasium. In 2016 the school was renamed Pärnu-Jaagupi Basic School thanks to the decrease in the number of students.
